Patrick Edward Doherty, 44, of Atkinson, New Hampshire, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at his home, with his loving wife Julia by his side. He leaves behind his wife, three children, family, and countless friends who will miss his laughter, his friendship, and the unmistakable way he made people feel welcome.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Patrick was the fourth of five sons born to Dennis J. Doherty and Jane M. (Moan) Doherty and grew up in Wayland, Massachusetts. He and his twin brother, Mark, shared a bond that remained one of the most important relationships in his life. Patrick was a graduate of Wayland High School, Class of 2000, and later earned his degree in liberal arts from Fisher College.

Patrick's greatest joy and greatest source of pride was his family. Being a dad was the role he cherished most, and there was nothing he loved more than spending time with his children, making memories, and simply being together. He and his son, Brennan, shared a special bond through sports. Patrick loved coaching basketball and flag football, but his favorite place to be was on the court with his son, whether coaching from the sidelines, helping him improve his game, or simply shooting baskets together. Those moments meant everything to him. With his daughter, Liliana, he shared a love of art and drawing, happily spending hours creating and coloring side by side. And then there was Marlee, his little mini-me — the two were truly two peas in a pod, and Patrick adored her personality, her spirit, and the pieces of himself he saw in her.

Patrick had a way of making people feel like old friends. He never met a stranger he couldn't connect with, and his warmth, humor, and easy way with people drew others to him naturally. He had a deep appreciation for underground hip hop and loved sharing music, stories, and laughter with the people around him.

Some of Patrick's happiest memories were made at Hermit Island Campground, a place he loved dearly. It was there, many years ago, that he met his wife, Julia, and what began there grew into a life together filled with love, family, friendship, and memories that will last forever. Hermit Island remained his favorite place in the world — a place that represented some of the best parts of his life and the beginning of his family's story.

Patrick's bond with his twin brother, Mark, was especially meaningful — Mark was not only his brother, but his very best friend, and the two spoke multiple times a day, sharing a lifetime of inside jokes, adventures, and memories. He also treasured the lifelong friendships he built with the people he grew up with. The "Coch Crew" knew how to have a good time, and no matter how much time passed or how life changed, those friendships remained an important part of who he was.

Patrick was incredibly proud to be one of five brothers and loved being part of his large, close-knit family. He was deeply grateful for his mom and dad and never took for granted the unconditional love, support, and encouragement they gave him throughout his life. He shared a close bond with each of his brothers: Patrick and Shawn shared a love of Boston sports and could always be found texting back and forth about the latest game or score; Dennis was a constant and reassuring presence, always believing in him and reminding him to go after the things that made him happy; and Brian and Patrick grew even closer during the years they lived together in the family home in Brighton, with Patrick looking up to his older brother.

Patrick's greatest partner in life was his wife, Julia. For nearly thirteen years, they supported each other through life's ups and downs, always balancing one another in the best ways. He was her calm and steady presence, and she was always there for him, loving and caring for him through every chapter of their life together. Some of their favorite times were the simplest — being near the ocean, eating lobster rolls, and enjoying each other's company.

Patrick will be sadly missed but forever carried in the hearts of his wife, Julia (Paone) Doherty; his son, Brennan Paul; his daughters, Liliana Louisa and Marlee Emerson; his parents, Dennis J. Doherty and Jane M. (Moan) Doherty, of Wayland, Massachusetts; his brothers, Shawn M. Doherty and his wife, Erin, of Warwick, Rhode Island; Dennis T. Doherty and his wife, Ingrid, of Holliston, Massachusetts; Brian R. Doherty and his wife, Julie, of Concord, Massachusetts; and Mark J. Doherty and his wife, Ashley, of Worcester, Massachusetts; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul Paone and Maureen Mulcahy-Paone, of Kingston, New Hampshire; and his brother-in-law, James Paone, and his fiancée, Kelley, of Hampstead, New Hampshire.

Patrick adored his time with his nieces and nephews and took great pride in watching them grow. He is also survived by his godson, William Patrick, who carries his name; his nieces and nephews, Grace, Camden, Kennedy, Bridget, Sadie, Colin, Jack, Ella, Pearl, Henry, Quinn, Vera, James, Daniel, Cameron, and Rylee; and many beloved cousins, whose friendship and connection he cherished throughout his life.

Though Patrick's life was far too short, the love he gave was immeasurable. He will be remembered for his enormous heart, his sense of humor, his love of music, and his gift for connecting with everyone he met — but most of all, for the deep love he had for his family. His greatest legacy lives on in his children, who will always know how deeply their dad loved them and how proud he was to be their father, and in the family, friends, and countless lives he touched along the way.

Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, New Hampshire. A Celebration of Life for Patrick will take place at the funeral home at 12:45 PM.
