Obituary

Haverhill: Ovila R. Cote, 99, of Haverhill, died September 7, 2022, at Prescott House in North Andover, three weeks before his one hundredth birthday.

Born, raised, and educated in Haverhill, son of the late Ovila and Louise (LaPlante) Cote, he was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1938 and later attended a local college.

An Army veteran of World War Two, Mr. Cote served as a Sergeant in Company A 291 st Infantry Regiment from June of 1943 until his honorable discharge in March of 1946 and saw action in the Rhineland,  Ardennes and Central Europe. He was a recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, The American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, The World War Two Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Cote was employed as a Haverhill letter carrier for forty years by the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. He was a longtime resident of the Bradford section of Haverhill and a member of All Saints Parish of Haverhill, and also an attendant of Sacred Hearts Parish of Bradford.

An accomplished cook, he also enjoyed listening to all types of music and keeping the romance alive out dancing with his late wife. Rita.  They also shared a love for traveling, trips to the beach and attending concerts at the Hampton Beach Shell and the Rogers Center. In his later years, as a resident of Haverhill Crossings, he happily took part in all of the outings and activities.

Predeceased in 2020 by his beloved wife of twenty-four years, Rita (Belanger)  (Cormier) Cote, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Rita's daughter, Charline (Cormier) Longdin of North Andover, and son, Daniel Cormier and his wife, Nancy of Weare, NH,  and their children and grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, especially, Mary Brovender and her husband, Marc of Boxford, and their children and many great and grand nieces and nephews and cousins, and his dear companion Marie Palmieri.
