Norman C. Mercier, 94, a resident of Haverhill, MA, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Prescott House in North Andover. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie A. (D’Amico) Mercier who died in 2019.

He was born in Haverhill, MA on June 6, 1931 and was the son of the late William and Marie (Bernard) Mercier. Norman was raised and educated in Plaistow, NH. He was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1949. During high school he played varsity basketball, football and baseball. Norman also attended Merrimack College and received an associate degree in design engineering at Wentworth Institute of Technology. He proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corp in 1950. He was a member of the Marine Corp baseball team. Norman was employed as an engineer at Avco, Raytheon, Haverhill Gas, and retired from the Haverhill Wastewater Treatment plant. After retirement he worked at Jaffarian Motors in Haverhill. Norman was a longtime parishioner of All Saints Parish in Haverhill and served as sexton for many years. He was former president of the Haverhill Figure Skating Club and a member of St. Joseph Bowling League. Norman loved all New England sports and was your “typical hockey parent”. He also enjoyed gardening and vacations at Wells Beach in Maine.

Norman is survived by his children Stephen Mercier and his wife Andrea of Londonderry, NH, and Norma Phaneuf and her husband Peter of Haverhill, MA, son-in-law, Steven Mscisz of Gloucester, MA, his four grandchildren Christopher Mscisz, Jennifer Hulecki, Michael Phaneuf, and Alexandra Ange.

Norman was sadly predeceased by his children William “Billy” Mercier and Kathryn Mscisz, his granddaughter Danielle Ange and his sister Constance “Connie” Mercier.

Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 from 9am – 10am at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA.   A funeral mass will follow at 10:30am at All Saints Parish in Haverhill, MA. Interment in Holy Angels Cemetery in Plaistow, NH.
