Obituary

Nickolas C. Sarbanis, 78, of Hampstead, NH, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Salemhaven Rehabilitation Center in Salem, NH surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Mary Anne (Woelflein) Sarbanis with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

Nick was born in Haverhill, MA on May 4,1947, the son of the late Angelo and Elizabeth (Campbell) Sarbanis. He was raised and educated in Haverhill, MA and graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1965. Nick participated in many sports in his youth, with football holding a special place in his heart. He was also involved with Boy Scouts throughout his youth and was one of the youngest members nationwide to become an Eagle Scout at age 13.

Nick graduated from Salem State University, Class of 1975 and went on to receive his Masters in Education from Rivier College in 1979. He devoted the early part of his career to the Timberlane Regional School District, serving as a Special Education Teacher and later Director of Special Education from 1973 to 1986. In 1986 Nick transitioned to a second career in banking and mortgage services, ultimately spending the remainder of his professional life in the mortgage industry until his retirement.

A man of generosity and community spirit, Nick dedicated countless hours to supporting local youth sports programs and social clubs in Hampstead and the surrounding towns. He and Mary Anne made their home in Hampstead for 47 years, raising their family in the community he cherished.  A passionate football enthusiast, he coached the Timberlane Tornadoes for eight years. Nick joined the Greater Hampstead Civic Club in 1982, where he became both a Lifetime Member and Hall of Fame inductee. While in the Civic Club, Nick and one other member helped establish the Biddy Ball (Basketball) program and the T-Ball program, co-ran the 4th of July frog jumping contest, and he was actively involved in many of the other programs sponsored by the club. In March of 2000, Nick joined the Knights of Columbus, St. Maximillian Kolbe Council of St. Anne's Parish.  He was active in the Knights of Columbus for over twenty years and was instrumental in launching several programs that continue to this day. Nick was a Fourth Degree Knight and served as Grand Knight for three consecutive years. He was also a devoted, longtime parishioner of St. Anne's Parish.

Nick found his greatest joy in time spent with his family.  He enjoyed cheering on his children and grandchildren at their various sporting events, creating memories at the family's shared lake house in Sanbornville, NH and teaching his grandchildren how to fish.  Nick always looked forward to and enjoyed camping trips with family and friends!

In addition to his wife Mary Anne, Nick will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his children Meghan Sarbanis, Julie Roy, Matt Sarbanis and his wife, Dolie, and Jason Sarbanis, along with his grandchildren Jack, Kaden and Isabel. He is also survived by his sister, Toni Donovan and her husband, Don, his brothers Tom Sarbanis, Richard Sarbanis and his wife, Sandy, and Bob Sarbanis and his wife, Deb, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Nick was sadly predeceased by his son, Brendan Sarbanis, his parents, Angelo and Betty Sarbanis, and his in-laws, Claire and Jack Woelflein.
