Obituary

Haverhill: Natalie D. Grassi, 95, a native and lifelong resident of Haverhill, died peacefully, Saturday evening, April 29, 2023, at Haverhill Crossings, after a brief illness. One of eight children of the late Liberato and Lucia (Berardini) Grassi, she attended Haverhill schools and was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1945. She attended Katherine Gibbs School in Boston and later in life received an Associate of Arts Degree from Bradford College.

Miss Grassi enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an Executive Secretary, first at Western Electric Co. and later, for most of her career, at Bells Labs. At the time of her retirement, she was employed at AT&T Technologies, North Andover.

A member of All Saints Parish and the Telephone Pioneers, she was completely devoted to her family, especially her sixteen nieces and nephews. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching the Mass every day on Boston Catholic Television. As a resident of Haverhill Crossings since 2017, she also enjoyed the social life provided by her circle of friends and the caring staff, who were her second family.

Miss Grassi was predeceased by her brothers, Dr. Michael A. Grassi, and Dr. James E. Grassi, her sisters, Eleanor M. Grassi, Laura R. Grassi, Louise V. Emery, Jacqueline A. Festo, and Edith A. Grassi, and a nephew, Michael Grassi.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by fifteen nieces and nephews, Lucia Turner of Jupiter, FL, Norma Brezing of Hamptons, NY, Orrietta Roy and her husband, Mark of Inman, SC, Catherine Rapfogel and her husband, Mark of Norwalk, CT, Dr. Clement Grassi and his wife, Santina of Winchester, MA, Thomas Grassi and his wife, MaryBeth of Methuen, MA, Dr. Anita Grassi Buttwin and her husband, William of Lincoln, MA, Mary Elizabeth Grassi McGowan and her husband E.J. of Winchester, MA,  Deborah Baker and her husband, John of Bainbridge Island, WA, Christine Defenbaugh and her husband, Dirk of Columbus, OH, James Grassi of Westwood, MA, Nancy Anello and her husband Kevin of Tampa, FL; and Elizabeth Brosnan and her husband Daniel, Bernardine Gearty, and Charles Emery and his wife, Mary, all of Haverhill, MA; also numerous great nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caring and supportive staff at Haverhill Crossings, the compassionate professionals at Hospice Services of Massachusetts, as well as all the other caregivers who tended to Natalie in her final days.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours to be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. Her funeral will begin on Thursday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, North Broadway, Haverhill.
