Obituary

Newton, NH: Mildred Frances (Perkins) Mather, 90, a resident of Newton for the last seven years, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 4, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Born in Whitman, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Edwin and Margaret (Ellis) Perkins, she was raised in East Bridgewater and graduated from East Bridgewater High School. She also enjoyed spending her summers on the Cape as a young woman and maintained a lifelong love of the coast. Mildred graduated from the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1953 and later that year married William Franklin Mather in Whitman.

Mildred was employed as an occupational health nurse and retired in 1994.  She was a resident of Brentwood, NH for fourteen years before moving to Newton in 2015.

Mildred's main passion in life was being an amazing mother and grandmother, and she far exceeded her goals. Before she began her career she enjoyed being a stay at home mom. In addition to her own five children she raised several foster babies. Mildred maintained a lifelong interest in family history and genealogy and for many years pursued her own family history and created family history scrapbooks for each of her grandchildren.  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was active in her local chapter. She was also a member of the Wing Family Incorporated of America and enjoyed acting as a docent for a few years at the American History Museum in Exeter. A member of the Red Hat Society.  Mildred was also active in her local church, The First Baptist Church of Brentwood. She enjoyed painting in pastels, drawing, crafting, creating teddy bears, and walnut head ladies, and attending and participating in local craft fairs.

Mildred will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her four daughters, Kimberlie Mather of Newton, NH, Karen Landis and her husband David of Barrington, RI, Nancy Paquin and her husband David of Dover, NH, and Stephanie Picard and her husband Robert of Foster RI; a son, David Mather and his fiancee' Catherine Herrington of Canterbury, six grandchildren, Mark Picard, Emily Landis, Julianne Paquin, Sarah (Paquin) Grant and her husband Joshua, Benjamin Paquin, and Rose Adams; three great grandchildren, Aydin Mather-Adams, Aida and Mason Grant; a brother Thomas Perkins and his wife Janet, a sister-in-law Estelle Perkins, and several nieces and nephews, and her former husband William F. Mather. She was predeceased by brothers, William Perkins, David Perkins, sisters, Marjorie Whitten, Nancy Waterman, and Hazel Prescott.
