Michael S.
Clarke
June 25, 1960 – June 1, 2024
Michael S. Clarke, age 63, died on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport, MA. He was the beloved son of the late George and Rita (Odymala) Clarke.
He was born and raised in Lawrence, MA and attended Lawrence Public Schools. He worked as a CDL driver for many years, before retiring as a driver for the Merrimack Valley Transit Authority. He had a personality that could get a laugh out of anyone in the room. His quick wit, and sarcastic sense of humor were unmatched. He could easily strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and we often joked that if you left him alone for more than 5 minutes, you were bound to come back and find he had made a couple of new friends.
Michael loved the ocean. He often spoke of fond memories spending weekends out on the ocean with family, as some of the best times of his childhood. He loved to fish and could be found every Sunday watching his favorite fishing show, Wicked Tuna for hours at a time.
He loved Harley's and classic cars. He could spend countless hours looking at bikes online, always hoping to ride again. There is no doubt in my mind that he is once again riding on two wheels, down a beautiful coast, in a happy and healthy body.
Anyone who knew Michael, knew one of his favorite things was a trip to the casino. Whether it was a blackjack table, or one of his favorite slot machines, as long as he was winning he was happy. He loved late nights at home, listening to his favorite music, and schooling you in a game of Rummy. All the while making you laugh until your cheeks hurt. He had more sets of Keno numbers than he could keep up with, and we will continue to play them in his memory...I know he will bring us good luck!
Michael was always down for an adventure and enjoyed many trips away over the last few years with his fiancé. He was always in the best spirits when he knew there was a trip planned. It didn't matter where. It could be anywhere from a week at Salisbury Beach, a weekend up north to the White Mountains, a summer vacation to Maine or a weekend at the casino. He just truly enjoyed getting away, and spending time with the people he loved.
As an avid Boston sports fan, he loved the Patriots, Red Sox, and Bruins...and I know he is still somewhere now rooting for the Celtics to make it all the way this year.
Michael is survived by his fiancé Anita Hanson, his son Jacob Clarke, his brother George Darosa, his sister Deborah Blanchard, and her husband James Blanchard, his sister Nancy Dobrinski and her husband Michael Dobrinski, his nephew Michael Dobrinski, and several cousins.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, June 14th from 5pm-7pm at the Berube-Comeau Funeral Home 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. His funeral service and interment will be held privately.
