Plaistow, NH, Melville C. "Mel" MacNeilly, 83, a resident of Plaistow since 1962, died Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family and following an extended illness.
Born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, son of the late Melville C. and Dorothy (Morrison) McNeilly, he attended local schools and graduated from Dorchester High School. As a young man he was employed at Schrafft Candy Co. He served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class during the Korean Conflict, assigned to the Signal Corps.
Following his honorable discharge from the service, he was employed for thirty-seven years as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service at the South Postal Annex in Boston.
Mr. MacNeilly was a member and past treasurer of the Carl Davis Post # 34 of the American Legion, Plaistow and the American Postal Workers Union. He enjoyed bowling, walking, playing cards, especially in 45's Tournaments, traveling and gardening. He was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and enjoyed attending his sons' sporting events.
The husband of the late Lois (Libby) MacNeilly and father of the late Donald MacNeilly, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by sons and daughters-in-law, James P. and Joy MacNeilly of Goffstown, William D. and Linda MacNeilly, of Fremont and Kenneth J. MacNeilly of Danville, three grandchildren, Jeffrey MacNeilly of Portland, Oregon, U.S. Army Lt. Michael MacNeilly of Goffstown and Molly MacNeilly of Goffstown, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a sister Carole Leonard.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Life Celebration to be held on Saturday July 29, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home and followed by burial in Plaistow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
