Obituary

Haverhill: Maureen Bridget "Mo" (Demarais) Lovely, 84 a former longtime resident of Bellevue Avenue, died Saturday, November 7, 2020 at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill.

Born in Haverhill, daughter of the late Arthur and Katherine (Lynch) Demarais, she attended local schools, including Saint James High School. Although her parents were born in Haverhill and Bradford, the Demarais family was able to trace their roots back to Quebec in the 1700's and Paris in the 1600's and the Lynch family lineage has been traced back to County Cork and County Kerry, in Ireland, during the 1800's.

In her younger years, "Mo" worked at Arthur's Diner in Bradford, which was owned and operated by her late father. She also worked in other local restaurants. She was very proud that despite having to go out to work at an early age, she was able to earn her GED.

Primarily a housewife and homemaker, Mrs. Lovely was employed in later years as an aide at  Phoenix Row in Haverhill and the Visiting Nurses Association. After marrying her late husband, Donald in 1961, they moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where she enjoyed golfing and competing in and winning several tournaments. An accomplished cook, she also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and dancing, especially the Jitterbug with her brother "Scratch". She was a great fan of Swing and Jazz music and owned an extensive album and CD collection of music of the 1940's and 1950's.

Following her husband's retirement, the couple moved back to Haverhill and took up residence in her sister and brother-in-law's second floor apartment on Bellevue Avenue, and she took up the role of the "upstairs Aunt".  She was a member of All Saints Parish. Maureen formed a close bond with her nieces and nephews who lived directly below her, and because she had no children of her own, she considered them her children. Being a great cook, she kept her brother-in-law, Ted, well fed after her sister Lorraine died several years ago.

Predeceased in 2015, by her husband Donald J. Lovely, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her twelve nieces and nephews; Jimmy, Kathy, Dan, Pat, Terri, Mikki, Stephan, Dianne, Allison, Lisa, Kevin and Stephanie, her sisters-in-law, Rosemarie Demarais,  and Marion Demarais, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Alfred A "Scratch" Demarais, Richard L. "Dicky" Demarais, Robert V. "Bobby" Desmarais and Henry L. "Bunky" Demarais, her sister Catherine A. "Kay" LaBelle, and sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine A. "Rene" and Ted DeRoche, a niece, Lori and nephews Teddy and Greg.
