Haverhill: Mary E. "Duna" (McDonough) Taillon, 98, of Haverhill and formerly of Packer Meadows in Newton, NH, died May 11, 2020 in Haverhill.
Born and raised in Swampscott, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Griffin) McDonough and was a 1940 graduate of Saint Joseph's Academy, Brighton.
Mrs. Taillon was a resident of several southern New Hampshire towns before moving south several years ago and returning to the area and settling into Packer Meadows sixteen years ago. She was employed by General Electric Co. and previously as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. In the latter part of her working life, she was a grant writer for federal programs.
Known as "Duna" to many of her friends over the years, Mrs. Taillon was a lover and protector of animals and nature all of her life. She raised horses and as a young woman, took part in competitive horse jumping. She also raised and showed dogs especially a champion Lasa Apso. Mrs. Taillon researched horses and studied their bloodlines and was recognized as an experienced handicapper.
Predeceased in 2002 by her beloved husband Earle V. Taillon, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sons, Earle V. "Jodi" Taillon, Jr. and his wife Donna, of Amesbury, and Mark F. Taillon and his wife Carol Lovely of Danville, NH, a step-son William E. Taillon and his wife Gayle of Haverhill, six grandchildren, Shawn Taillon, David Taillon, Bradley Taillon, Patrick Taillon, Nicole Taillon and Rebecca Taillon, ten great-grandchildren, nine nieces and nephews and several cousins. She was predeceased by brothers, Gerard and John McDonough and a sister, Margaret Rahilly.
Due to the national health emergency, private family services were held on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH, with burial in Swampscott Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Mrs. Taillon's name to any animal shelter or to any chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
