Haverhill,MA: Mrs. (Mary) Evelyn (Greene) (Roy) Smith, 83, of Haverhill, and formerly of Lowell, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center, Haverhill.

Born in Charlestown, daughter of the late Percy F. and Emma (Deveau) Greene, she attended schools in Charlestown.She worked as a clerk for Undercover Wear and for a local printing and greeting card company.

Mrs. Smith served as an ombudsman for the Elder Services of Merrimack Valley.She received the Rev. William O'Rourke Award from the Friends of Bethany Community Services for her spiritual ministry to elders in the Greater Haverhill area.

She was a member of St. James Parish, Haverhill, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.She was also a member of the former St. Joseph Parish's Third Order of Mary and Ladies of St. Anne.

A loving mother and devoted grandmother, Mrs. Smith also enjoyed crafts and traveling.

The wife of the late Raymond Roy who died in 1977 and Arthur Smith who died in 1994, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond E. and Heidi Roy, Jr. of Bradford; three grandchildren, Leigha Roy, Kristen Roy and Joshua Roy; four nephews, William Greene of Oregon and Richard Greene of California; four nieces, Maryellen O'Connor and her husband, William of Beverly, Evelyn Gallagher of Malden, Linda Kilmartin of Holliston and Patricia Miles and her husband, Dennis of Holliston; many great nieces and nephews; and a longtime friend, Judith Burton of Charlestown.

She was pre-deceased by a son, Joseph James Roy, who died in 1989 and two brothers, Frederick Greene and William Greene.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, December 8, 2011,from 5 to 8 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Route 97, Haverhill. Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. James Church, Haverhill. Burial will follow in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead, MA.
