Mary A. (Masterson) Sceggell, 89, a former longtime resident of Hampstead and Sandown, died December 6, 2017 at Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont.
Born, raised and educated in Peabody, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Mary (Reardon) Masterson. She was a member of the Saint John's High School Class of 1946 and attended the former Salem Commercial School.
Mrs. Sceggell was employed as a bookkeeper at Aulson Tanning Co. in Beverly and later at Berkshire Manufacturing Products of Newburyport. She also served in the same capacity for the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce for several years and at Saint Basil's Seminary. She was a resident of Wenham, MA before moving to the Southern New Hampshire area and settling in Sandown in 1975, and later Hampstead in 1992.
A member of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, Mrs. Sceggell formerly was a member of the Catholic community of Saint Michael's Station, Sandown, where she served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister and also was a longtime member of the Cursillo Movement at Saint Basil's.
Mrs. Sceggell was an accomplished baker, well-known for her chocolate chip cookies, and also enjoyed playing bingo, shopping and dining out.
The former wife of the late, Benjamin Sceggell, and mother of the late Thomas L. Sceggell, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son David B. Sceggell and his life partner Jennie R. Wadleigh of East Kingston, a nieces, Rebecca Landry of Peabody, and several cousins, great nieces and nephews and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Life Celebration to be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. Her funeral will be held on Monday morning at 9.am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10a.m. in Mary Mother of the Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, Newton, NH.
