IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary E.
Roy
February 11, 1937 – May 13, 2025
Atkinson, NH: Mary E. (Wicke) Roy, 88, a resident of Atkinson since 2014, and formerly of Townsend, MA, died peacefully at her home on May 13, 2025.
Born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts, Mary was the daughter of the late John and Victoria (Williamson) Wicke. Along with her three sisters, she attended Venerini Academy. Mary was a devoted student. After skipping two grades, she graduated from Sacred Heart Academy at the age of 16.
In 1960, she married Richard J. Roy. They lived in Pepperell and Lowell before settling in Townsend, MA and raising their family. After 40 years in Townsend, they moved to Atkinson, NH, to be near their son.
Mary enjoyed spending time with relatives. Weekly gatherings for card games and large holiday dinners were highlights of her life in Townsend. She valued her career with the telephone company, from the earliest days of being an operator as a teen to retiring as a manager. She was active in her church, serving as Lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph's Parish in Pepperell before moving to NH. Her dogs were a cherished part of Mary's life. Jasper, Teddy, Annie, Shep, Lucy, and Walter were wonderful companions to her over the years. She enjoyed two major trips in her life - one to Ireland, and one to Italy, but Ogunquit, Maine was a very special place for her. She loved the Marginal Way, the beach, Barnacle Billy's, and the many gift shops along Main Street. In her later years, daily visits from her son Richard provided safety and fun and deep friendship.
Predeceased in 2018 by her devoted husband, Richard, by two daughters, Kathleen and Kristine, and her sisters Jane and Helen, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard Roy and Wendee Amero of Plaistow, her daughter and son-in-law, Karen Roy and John Gerety of Marshfield, MA, her sister Nancy Roberts of North Grafton, MA, and other extended family member and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her graveside service to be held at 11 a.m. on May 21, 2025 at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Pepperell. Arrangements are under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main ST., Plaistow, NH.
