Haverhill, MA:Mrs. Mary C. "Kate" Roberts, 98, of Haverhill, formerly of Melrose and West Yarmouth, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at the Oxford Nursing Home, Haverhill.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late Peter and Hazel (Bowers) Carney, she attended Peabody High School, Pittsburgh, PA, graduating with the Class of 1931 and Mrs. Pinkerton's Secretarial School.She later moved to Melrose, MA and then to West Yarmouth where she remained for forty years before moving to Haverhill in 2011.

Mrs. Roberts worked as a Secretary for the Kemper Insurance Company and later took on the position of Office Manager until her retirement. She was a 50+ year member of the DAR.She served on the Consumer Assistance Council in Hyannis, MA where she received the honor of "Volunteer of the Year".She was an avid Celtics fan.

The widow of the late Douglass B. Roberts, she is survived by a nephew, Thomas B. Copeland and his wife, Karen of Haverhill and a niece, Ann Booth and her husband, Alan of West Goshen, CT.She was predeceased by a sister, Frances E. Copeland and a niece, Judy Copeland.

There will be no calling hours.A Memorial Service will be held in the spring at the West Yarmouth Congregational Church, 383 Main St., Route 28, West Yarmouth, MA.Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
