Obituary

Chelmsford: Mary Ann Coppola, 71, of Chelmsford MA., daughter of the late Lt. Colonel James Diamond Osgood and Mary Velma ( McCraw) Osgood of Hanover New Hampshire passed away at Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston, due to complications from her battle with cancer on August 25, 2017.

She was predeceased by her husband Joseph E. Coppola, and brothers Colonel James Osgood, and Dr. William Osgood.

Born September 10, 1945, Mary Ann attended Hanover High School, and graduated with the Class of 1963. She attended the University of New Hampshire, and earned her Master's degree in Teaching from Fitchburg State College as well as her Bachelor's degree in Drama from the University of New Hampshire. Mary Ann worked in the Haverhill Public School System as a teacher for thirty-five years. She spent many years as a first grade teacher at the Knipe School of Bradford, the first site based management school in Massachusetts.

Mary Ann will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Lisa Coppola and husband Brendan Hogan of Belmont MA and her son Michael Coppola and fiancé Jessica Janvrin of Morristown, Tennessee.

Memories of Mary Ann's MAC Moose photography business, her love of fishing and camping, and funky VW busses will bring a smile to those she leaves behind. Also included are the memories of her musical talents in the folk blues band, the Emerald City String Band, in which she played with friends during her college years at UNH, at the friendly local hangout "The Grog".

Mary Ann pioneered the Open Door Society of New England; an adoption support and resource group in the State of New Hampshire that she founded in the nineteen-eighties. She and her husband Joe at times served as emergency foster parents to children in need.
