Atkinson, NH: Mary G. (Nelson) Sheehan, R.N., 88, a resident of Atkinson for fifty years and a longtime resident of Big Island Pond, died on March 6, 2015 at Penacook Place in Haverhill.
Born in Haverhill and raised and educated in "The Acre", daughter of the late Robert and Katherine (Cronin) Nelson, Mrs. Sheehan graduated from St. James High School and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing.
Mrs. Sheehan worked as a Registered Nurse at the Hale Hospital as an operating room nurse and Cloverhill Hospital in obstetrics for many years. She last worked as Head Nurse and Charge Nurse at the St. Mary's Ward of the Bon Secours in Methuen.
An avid Red Sox fan, Mrs. Sheehan was a member of the Massachusetts Nurses Association and St. Luke the Evangelist Parish at Holy Angels Church in Plaistow. She also enjoyed knitting and dancing.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas F.J. Sheehan, and her son, John R. "Jack" Sheehan, and brother, Richard J. Nelson. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas N. and Judy Sheehan of Atkinson, NH, a sister, Katherine Legare of Silver Springs, FL, four grandchildren, Sean Sheehan, Denise Sheehan, Corey Sheehan, and Matthew Sheehan, four great grandchildren, and a great-great grandson.
Relatives and friends may attend Mrs. Sheehan's Life Celebration on Tuesday, March 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. Her funeral will begin on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Luke the Evangelist Parish at Holy Angles Church, 8 Atkinson Depot Road, Plaistow, NH. Burial will take place in the spring in Holy Angels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
