Atkinson, NH:  Mary P. (Hanagan) Murphy, 88, a longtime resident of Atkinson, died peacefully on December 23, 2019 at Windham Terraces, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Haverhill, daughter of the late George and Helen (Driscoll) Hanagan, she was raised and educated in the Bradford section and was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1949.

Moving to Atkinson in 1958, Mrs. Murphy worked as a teacher's aide at Atkinson Academy and was a member of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish and the former Holy Angels Parish of Plaistow.

She was the wife of the late Atkinson Fire Chief, Donald L. Murphy and was instrumental in establishing the Women's Auxiliary of the the Atkinson Firefighters' Association. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and making wreaths, playing cards, completing puzzles, lunch with her friends and camping.

Predeceased by her husband Donald in 1981, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald L. and Joan Murphy of Atkinson, Atkinson Fire Chief Michael E. and Pamela Murphy of Atkinson, two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna M. and Robert Raymond of Fort Meyers, FL, and Mary Pat and Marc Leverette of Murphy, NC, sister-in-law, Robert and Frances Hanagan of Bradford, MA, five grandchildren, Bryan, Jeffrey, Shane, Andrew and Timothy, seven great-grandchildren, Makayla, Connor, Nathan, Luke, Aubrey, Ryan and Maeve, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by brothers Robert, George and Richard Hanagan.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 27, 2019 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by burial in Atkinson Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The Atkinson Firefighters Association, P.O.
