Mary F. (Griffin) Gullo, 91, of Atkinson, NH died peacefully Tuesday, March 5, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Haverhill, Mary, the daughter of the late John and Hilda (Burns) Griffin, attended area schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School. She was a piano teacher for over 70 years, first exploring her passion for music at the age of 16 when she began to take lessons. Mary began teaching piano not long after, building her own private studio into one of the most successful in the Merrimack Valley area. Not only did Mary love teaching piano, she also loved getting to know her students on a personal level and often offered them advice and wisdom drawn from her many years of experience. Mary was known for her generosity and humility, a trait recognized by all who knew her, including the myriad of students she kept in touch with over the years.
A devoted and loving wife to the late Valentino "Val" Gullo, Mary was married for 59 years and made her home in Haverhill, later relocating to Atkinson in the 1980s. She is survived by her three children, Stephen Gullo and wife Susan of Haverhill, Maureen Francis of Atkinson, Nancy (Gullo) McDermott of Haverhill; grandchildren Christopher Francis and wife Mary of Swanzey, NH, Sharon Quinlan and husband Jeff of Wilmington, Matthew Gullo and wife Suzanne of North Port, FL, and Patrick Gullo of Burlingame, CA; step-grandchildren Meghan Cahill and husband Shane of Haverhill, Kate Leavitt of Haverhill, Amy Johnson and husband Travis of Danville, NH; loving niece Donna Vizard and partner Jeff Castle of Plaistow, NH; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and her dog Lizzie. Predeceased by husband Valentino Gullo, brother John Griffin Jr., and stepmother Carmella Griffin.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, March 7, 2019, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow, N.H. Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Saint John the Baptist Church, Lincoln Avenue, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or Salem Animal Rescue League (SARL).
