Obituary


Haverhill, MA: Mary A. (Gaiero) Goggin, 89, lifelong resident of Haverhill and former long time resident of Charles Street in Haverhill, died on March 20, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born, raised, and educated in Haverhill, daughter of the late Domenic and Mary (Rubino) Gaiero, she attended St. James Grammar School and graduated from St. James High School with the Class of 1942.

As a young woman, Mrs. Goggin worked in a local hat factory and as a telephone operator. Mrs. Goggin was the co-owner and operator of Charles Street Laundry, along with her late husband John, for many years. She was a volunteer for the Haverhill Chapter of the American Red Cross and eventually retired as secretary in 1986.

A lifelong member of St. James Parish, Mrs. Goggin enjoyed traveling with her husband and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She hosted many family gatherings at her home in Haverhill, including Christmas Eve, and at her beach house in Seabrook on Portsmouth Avenue in mid-September every year.

She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Goggin, Jr., and is survived by three daughters, Ellen M. Goggin of Haverhill, Kathleen A. Jacobs and her husband Harry of Methuen, and Judith A. Nangle and her husband Joseph of Westfield, two sons and daughters-in-law, John J. III and Paula (Becotte) Goggin of Salisbury, and David P. and Vickie (Troiani) Goggin of New City, NY, ten grandchildren, Michael Jacobs, Paul Jacobs and his wife Caitlin, Karyn Jacobs, Erin Nangle, Joseph Nangle, Dan Nangle, Sean Nangle, Jacqueline Goggin, John Goggin, and Gina (Goggin) Trombly and her husband Scott, three great grandchildren, and several loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Adam Jacobs.

The family wishes to thank Merrimack Valley Hospice for the kindness and comfort that they extended to Mrs. Goggin during her illness. They would also like to thank Emma Wood for her exceptional care of Mrs. Goggin.

Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. Her funeral will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. James Church, 185 Winter Street, Haverhill. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Haverhill.
