Haverhill, MA:Mary A. (Driscoll) Downing, 90, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA.
Born in Haverhill, daughter of the late Michael A. and Eva L. (Karelitz) Driscoll, she attended Saint James Grammar School and was a graduate of Saint James High School, Class of 1939.She was also a former resident of Plaistow and Hampstead, NH.
Mrs. Downing worked as a private secretary for Dr. Burrows in Haverhill for 13 years and also worked as a clerk/secretary at National Beer & Liquor, the Colonial Theatre, Andy Moss Appliance and Barrett's Men's Store.
She was a member of Saint James Church, the Catholic Daughters of America at Holy Angels Church, the woman's auxiliary of the American Legion, Carl Davis Post 34, in Plaistow, and was also an avid bingo player.
The former wife of the late Byron E. Downing, who died in 2000, she is survived by a brother, Howard F. Driscoll of Plaistow, a sister-in-law Jesselyn Driscoll of Atkinson as well as several nieces and nephews.She was also predeceased by her sister, Dorothy McCarthy as well as three brothers, William J. Driscoll, Vincent H. Driscoll and Donald A. Driscoll.
