Haverhill: Mary Ann (Jones) Donovan, 79, of Haverhill, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
Born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Fred and Doris (Fortier) Jones, she attended local schools and graduated from Cathedral High School. She later received her certification as a Surgical Technician from Springfield Technical Community College.
Mary worked for many years as a surgical technician at Bon Secours Hospital in Methuen and later for Talman Eye Associates until her retirement. In her later years, she enjoyed working at The Dollar Store in Plaistow, NH. She was also a supporter of the MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen, and enjoyed caring for her pets.
Known for her great sense of humor, Mary was a devoted grandmother known affectionately as "Nana' and enjoyed spending much of her free time with her family. She was an avid gardener, cook and fan of the Boston Bruins, and always looked forward to trips to the beach where, she spent time walking along the seashore collecting seashells.
Predeceased in 1986 by her husband Michael Donovan, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by a son and daughter-in-law Richard A. and Janis Hassell of Newton, NH, two daughters and a son-in-law, Beth A. and Michael Skafas of Haverhill, and Jill E. Hassell of Haverhill. a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Ronald Pasternak of Paxton, five grandchildren, Amber Mayfield, Nicholas Skafas, David A. Hassell, Emma Skafas, and Elizabeth Hassell, two great grandchildren, April and Nena Mayfield, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Francis Jones.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours to be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. Her funeral service will follow at 12:15 p.m. in the funeral home and conclude with burial in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill. Memorial donations for Mary may be made to MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA.
