Newton, NH: Mary M. (Uhl) (Doggett) Allen, 92, a resident of Newton for the past fifty-six years, and a longtime State Representative to the New Hampshire General Court, died peacefully on February 3, 2023 in Exeter, NH.
Born and educated in Lawrence, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Edward and Cathlene (Murphy) Uhl, she attended Lawrence High School and later, local college classes.
Mrs. Allen was employed for six years as a medical transcriptionist, and later owned and operated Allen's Country Store in Newton. She was employed as a cost analyst at Bracken Trucking and was the Newton Correspondent for the Eagle-Tribune Publishing Co. for a decade.
An active and supportive member of her community, Mrs. Allen served for eighteen years as a State Representative from 2002 until 2020, first for Newton, East Kingston and Brentwood and towards the end of her terms solely for the Town of Newton. She was also the Past Master of the Granite State Grange #149 and a fifty-one-year member of the Newton Planning Board and forty-nine-year member of the Rocking-ham Planning Commission. She also served at times as a Trustee of the Trust Funds, and a Newton Selectwoman. She was honored by her town twice when the town report was dedicated to her.
Predeceased in 1998 by her husband, Ernest Allen, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by a son James L. Doggett of Newton, with who she lived; a son and daughter-in-law John M. and Deb Doggett of Deerfield, NH, two step-daughters, Wendy Roberts and her husband Joe of Tyngsboro, MA and Sandra Mullins and her companion Gene of Rindge, NH; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Roberta Doggett, her step-son David Allen, two brothers, Alan Uhl and Edward Uhl and a sister Carol Manning.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours to be held on Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. A graveside Committal service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Mary M. Allen Scholarship fund, c/o J. L.
