Velishka
December 21, 1941 – May 27, 2022
Rangeley, Maine: Martin John Velishka, aged 80, of passed away on May 27, 2022, from heart failure. He was born and raised in Haverhill, MA, son to the late Olga and John Velishka. He raised his sons in North Andover, MA and enjoyed participating in their athletic events and school activities.
Marty was a high school and college football player in Haverhill, Bridgton Academy, Southern Illinois University and the University of Tampa, Florida. He enjoyed watching his sons play high school and college ball. He also served in the Army Reserves in Lawrence, Ma.
Marty worked for Nabisco as a salesman before starting his own construction company to install pools and later in home construction.
After purchasing a home on Lake Mooselookmeguntic in Maine, the family enjoyed outdoor sports, hiking, and boating. His passion was building, and he developed a favorite project, Blueberry Fields in Haverhill, MA.
Marty and family attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church, North Andover and did much to improve the building and grounds. In later years he attended Church of the Good Shepherd in Rangeley and volunteered in various groups and fundraising activities. With others he created a "Gnome Home Roam" trail in Rangeley for the Rangeley Lakes Trails Center and volunteered at the Maine Forestry Museum.
He was very proud of his Lithuanian heritage, loved the outdoors and his family.
Marty is survived by his three sons, Benjamin and his wife, Jennifer, Jonathan and his wife, Tiffany, and Samuel and his wife, Kathryn; seven grandchildren, Arthur, Julia, Jessie, Reese, Emily, James, and Olivia; cousin, Karen Zingarelli, formerly of Haverhill and her husband, Tony. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved sister, Judith Velishka.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, June 2, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. His funeral service will follow at 12:15 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family lot at the Lithuanian Cemetery, Bradford.
