Obituary

Hampstead, NH: Martin D. Solomon, 85 a resident of Hampstead for the past nineteen years, died Friday, May 31, 2024 at home.

Born, raised and educated in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he was the son of the late John and Loretta (Blute) Solomon. He graduated from Bassick High School with the Class of 1957, where he excelled in sports, notably as a member of the varsity football and baseball teams. His family was active in their local Catholic parish where he served as an altar boy. Martin served as a Specialist 4 in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1965 with the rank of Corporal.

Martin's whole working career was involved with food sales with a long tenure at Sweet Life Foods/SuperValu, an American wholesaler and retailer of grocery products.  Following his retirement, he went back to work for Market Basket in Plaistow where he was employed until this past May.

He was a longtime resident of Andover, MA, where he raised his family, and was active as a coach, umpire and volunteer leader for Andover Junior Football League and Andover Little League. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family, on and off the sporting fields. He was a member of Saint Anne's Parish of Hampstead and enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia.

Predeceased in 2021 by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Arlene L. (Belpedio) Solomon, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his two sons, Martin D. Solomon, Jr. of Hampton, NH, and Curt V. Solomon and his wife Julie of Midlothian, VA, a daughter, Carole Hanedanian of Lawrence and formerly of Bradford,MA, a daughter-in-law Lisa Solomon of Andover, a sister June Ray of Danvers, MA, seven grandchildren, Daniel Solomon, and Alyssa Solomon, of Truckee, CA, Brianne Hanedanian, Mark Hanedanian and Rachel Hanedanian, all of Lawrence, MA, and Matthew Solomon and Evan Solomon of Midlothian, VA, great grandchildren, Gina and Joanna, a niece, Robbin Ray, three nephews, Jay Ray, Mark Solomon and John Solomon and several cousins. He was predeceased last month by his brother John "Jack" Solomon III.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours to be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. His Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Saint Anne's Church, 26 Emerson Ave., Hampstead, NH. Please arrive at the church by 9:45 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead.
