Mark E. Whelan, age 42 of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Mass General Hospital in Boston.
He was born on January 11, 1973 in Woburn, MA the son of Edward F., Jr. and Florence (Corleto) Whelan. He was raised and educated in Winchester, MA and graduated from Winchester High School, Class of 1991. He had attended Milford Academy in CT and Salve Regina in RI.
Mark had worked as a route driver for Poland Springs in Dracut and most recently, he was employed as a custodian for the Haverhill Public School Department.
He was an avid sports fan who loved the Boston Red Sox. He was also a devoted Notre Dame Football fan, who bled "blue & gold". Mark was a loving and dedicated father who volunteered his time to coach his kid's sports teams, and never missed a game.
Mark is survived by his wife of 15 years, and his best friend, Jill M. (Taylor) Whelan of Haverhill, MA. His daughter Riley E. Whelan and his son, Brendan A. Whelan of Haverhill, MA. His father, Edward F. Whelan, Jr. and wife, Diana of Margate, FL. His sisters; Dawn Peloso and husband, John of Clinton, MA and Debbie Whelan-Baglio and husband, Michael of Billerica, MA. His father and mother-in-law, Alan Taylor and wife, Janice of Haverhill, MA. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles also survive him. Mark was pre-deceased by his mother, Florence E. Whelan.
Family and friends are invited to attend Mark's Life Celebration on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 4-8 PM at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA 01832. His funeral will begin on Friday, September, 11, 2015 at 10 AM at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at All Saints Parish, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill.
