Atkinson, NH - Marjorie M. (Sweeney) (Flanagan) Scanlon, age 87, a longtime resident of Atkinson, died peacefully on Tuesday morning, July 24, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Haverhill, MA, daughter of the late John and Angelina (Panneton) Sweeney, she attended Saint Joseph Grammar School and Haverhill High School. She was first employed as a stitcher in the local shoe industry and later worked at Eastern Canvas, Samuel Roberts Clothing, Frequency Devices and owned and operated Country Crafts on White Street in Haverhill. A resident of Atkinson for thirty years before living briefly in Sandown, she returned to Atkinson in 2008.
Mrs. Scanlon enjoyed sewing and playing cards and was an accomplished baker, well-known for her Mocha Cake and Pumpkin Nut Cookies.
She was predeceased by her first husband John J. Flanagan in 1972 and her second husband James F. Scanlon in 2006 and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by three sons, John J. and his wife Kathleen of East Hampstead, and James F. and Sean P. both of Atkinson, three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia A. and Alex Brown of Plaistow, Cynthia E. Flanagan of Derry and Robin J. and John Bourdelais of Atkinson, a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Melissa Sweeney of Salem, NH, a sister Jeannette Rundle of Kingston, ten grandchildren , fourteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, especially nieces Cheryl Currier and Debra Carrow. She was predeceased by daughters, Debbie and Lisa, grandchildren, John "Jay" Bourdelais, and Tara Flanagan, brothers, Robert Sweeney, John "Leo" Sweeney and Raymond Sweeney, sisters, Mary Rose Nye, Helen Towne, Delores Chabot, Lorraine Durgin, and Dorothy Ashford, and sister-in-law Mary Witty.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mrs. Sweeney's Life Celebration to be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main ST., Route 121A, Plaistow Her funeral will be held on Friday, July 27, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, with burial to follow in Atkinson Cemetery.
