Obituary

Newton, NH: Margery "Dar" (Richards) Hanson, 93, a native and lifelong resident of Newton, died peacefully in her home on June 30, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of the late Frederick P. and Dorothy (Wilder) Richards, she attended local schools and was a member of the Amesbury High School Class of 1945. She owned and operated Dar's Beauty Salon in Newton for many years and was employed as a Traveling Officer In-Charge by the United States Postal Service.

A longtime member of the former First Baptist Church of Newton, Mrs. Hanson enjoyed going to work every day with her daughter, Nancy and was a volunteer at Shared Living Collaborative in Merrimac. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her large family, and enjoyed spending holidays and other family events with them. She also enjoyed being a dance instructor, as well as cross stitching, completing puzzles, and regular trips to the beach.

Predeceased in 2006 by her loving husband of fifty-six years, John A. Hanson, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son, Norman Hanson of Newton, her three daughters and sons-in-law; Nancy and Norman Huntress of Newton, Barbara and Thomas Devoe of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Edwina and John Carbone of Newton, a sister-in-law Gloria Richards of Florida, eight grandchildren; Amy Legere, Andrew Huntress and his wife Amanda, Allison Henderson and her husband Ian, Corrine Salkovitz, Daniel Carbone, Kimberly Lajoie and her husband Gary, Christopher Hanson and Grace Hanson, six great-grandchildren; Alexis Plunkett, Reanna Legere, Maria Marrero, Ava Devoe, Sophia Devoe and Maddie Henderson, one great-great grandson, Shaun Giles, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter Mary Alice Hanson, two sons Richard A. Hanson and John K. Hanson, two brothers, David Richards and Pennry Richards and his wife Claire,  a sister Nancy (Field) Cheney and her grandson Ryan Devoe.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours to be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. A Celebration of her Life will follow at 4:15 p.m. in the funeral home.
