Haverhill – Margaret L. Hurley, 100, former resident of Billerica, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 25, 2022 in Newburyport, MA, following a brief illness. She was the loving wife of Jeremiah F. Hurley who passed away in 2003.

Margaret was born on February 28, 1922 in Boston, MA, the daughter of the late Edwin and Jeannette (Metzler) Horney.  She was raised in Boston, and attended Dorchester High School for Girls, graduating in 1939. She continued her education at the Boston Clerical School. She served in the US Navy during WWII, and then returned home to start a family.

Peg enjoyed baking, traveling, leading Girl Scout Troop 319, making trips to Foxwood with her daughters and spending winters in Englewood, Florida and parts of summers at Little Sebago Lake.  Most of all she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children Robert Hurley and wife Jeanne of Centerville, Joan Desmarais and husband Leonard of Haverhill, Kathleen Williams of Haverhill, Mary Laughlin and husband William of Malden, and James Hurley and wife Nancy of Evansville, WI, by her nine grandchildren, by her eighteen great grandchildren, and by her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her five brothers and one sister.

Family and friends may visit on Monday January 2, 2023, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday January 3, at 10 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, 110 Lincoln Ave. Haverhill, MA. Burial will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA.
