M. Bernadette "Bernie" (Fontaine) Huberdeau, 89, formerly of Blaisdell Street and Clement Court in Haverhill, died Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Haverhill Crossings.
Born in Haverhill, daughter of the late Arthur and Pauline (Saulnier) Fontaine, she attended Saint Joseph Grammar School and was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1941. She also attended Hunter College in The Bronx, NY. A Navy veteran of W.W.II, Mrs. Huberdeau served as a Yeoman at the U.S. Naval Station in Miami.
Mrs. Huberdeau first worked as a hairdresser and proprietor of Bernie's Beauty Salon on Blaisdell St, Haverhill and was later employed from 1965 until 1980 as a payroll clerk for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Welfare, Haverhill.
A member of All Saints Parish and the former Saint Joseph Parish, Mrs. Huberdeau was one of the two female members of the former Franco American War Veterans Society. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, and family times and was very devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Lionel E. Huberdeau, two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Robert Denoncour of Haverhill, and Carol and Paul Daniel of East Hampstead, NH, two brothers, Normand Fontaine of Wolfeboro, NH and Joseph Fontaine of Kingston,NH, four grandchildren, Andrew Denoncour and his wife Jennifer of Haverhill, Shawn Denoncour and his wife Kristen of Shirley, Michael Daniel and his wife Alexia of Dracut and Ashley Daniel and her fiancé, Patrick Fitzpatrick of Arlington, VA, four great grandchildren, Jayson and Tyler Denoncour and Connor and Hannah Daniel, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Fontaine and sister Alvina "Brownie" Sargent-Boyd.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Haverhill Crossings and Beacon Hospice for all the care and consideration extended to Mrs. Huberdeau and her family during her final illness.
Relatives and friends may call on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11a.m. in All Saints Church, Haverhill. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
