Obituary

Lynn, MA: Lillian D. (Richards) Katz, 96, a longtime resident of Lynn, died peacefully at Exeter (NH) Hospital on December 8, 2021. Since the beginning of her last illness, she has been staying at the home of her daughter in Danville, NH, where she has been lovingly cared for with the help of Rockingham Homecare/Hospice and the Danville Fire Department.

Born and raised in Burlington, VT, daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn (Barnes) Richards, she attended local schools until moving to Lynn as a young woman. Mrs. Katz found work as a seamstress, a steam presser in a dry cleaners and a shoe model before leaving the work force to raise her children.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she enjoyed creating a warm and loving home for her family. Known as the unofficial "Mayor of Wyoma Square", she enjoyed spending time with her family, neighbors and friends socializing. She was appointed by the City of Lynn to represent her local ward as a member of the Rental Grievance Board. In her later years, Mrs. Katz enjoyed visiting her daughter in Danville, NH, taking daily "rides to nowhere" and attending her daughter's dog show events.

Predeceased in 1992 by her husband of forty years, John "Red" Katz, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by four daughters, Donna Papadopoulos of Peabody, MA, Sheila Johannesen of Danville, NH, Denise Katz of Stratham, NH and Tina Walters and her husband Russell of Lynn, a son Jon W. Katz and his wife Patricia of Lowell, six brothers, Stanley Richards, of Milton, VT, Steven Goodrich of Burlington, VT, John Richards of Colchester, VT, Elmer Richards of Williston, VT, Eugene Richards of Peabody, and Lyman Richards of Lynn, six grandchildren, Andrea (Papadopoulos) Walsh, Peter Papadopoulos, Crystal Katz, Meaghan Button, Sara Fortin, and Adam Finnemore,  seventeen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her grandson Chevy Katz, and two sons-in-law, Charles Papadopoulos, and Roy Johannesen.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation to be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. Her funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. in the funeral home and followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Rockingham VNA and Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH. or to Danville Fire Association, 169 Main St., P.O.
