Obituary


Atkinson, NH: Leo Hamel passed away in January at his winter home in Florida. He will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife, Judy, of fifty-eight years and by his children: Andrew and his wife Joan of Raymond, Barbara Noyes and her husband Mark of North Andover, and David and his wife Renee of Amesbury, and by his grandchildren: Justin, Amanda, Stephanie, Samantha, Matthew, and Carolyn. He is also survived by his sister, Soline Provencal and one niece and five nephews.

Leo was born in Andover in 1933 and graduated from Central Catholic High School. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1954. He attended Merrimack College where he played on their first hockey team and graduated in 1958 with a B.A. in Business. Leo received an M.B.A from Northeastern University in 1966, and spent thirty-five years in accounting and finance working for Western Electric, Bell Labs, Sanders Associates, and the Polaroid Corporation.

Leo loved to play tennis and played from childhood until his eighties. He was also an avid fan of all the Boston sports teams - particularly the Patriots and Red Sox.

A funeral service will be held on May 21, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, NH with burial to follow at the Atkinson Town Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Silverthorne Adult Day Care, 23 Geremonty Drive, Salem, NH 03079.
