Obituary

Haverhill: Lee R. Stewart, 81, of Haverhill, died peacefully at his home on April 3, 2020.

Born in Hawthorne, California, son of the late Wilbert and Marie (Gavlin) Stewart, he was raised in North Hollywood, CA, and attended local schools. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving honorably in the United States Air Force from February 17, 1956 until February 16, 1962. He was discharged as an Airman Second Class and was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Stewart was employed as a machinist for many years, at Borden Chemical Co. of North Andover and later in the same capacity at Vernon Plastics until his retirement in 2003.

A former resident of Palm Harbor, Florida, before moving back to Haverhill several years ago, he was a member of the Haverhill Lodge of Elks. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed woodworking, working in his yard and target shooting.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-one years, Barbara (Welch) Stewart, two sons, Lee R. Stewart, Jr. and his loving companion Michele Pouliot of Salisbury and Ernest R. Stewart and his wife Gerri of Stetson, Maine, three daughters, Jayne E. Bourassa of Haverhill, Donna J. Johnson and her husband Marc of Schenectady, NY, and Dorothy A. Ellis and her husband Jerry of Wellington, FL, also fifteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Annemarie Stewart in 2012 and also by his brothers, Glenn Stewart, Robert Stewart and Russell Stewart.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, June 22, 2020, at 10 AM at Walnut Cemetery in Haverhill. Due to the national health crisis, those attending are reminded to practice social distancing guidelines at the cemetery.
