Lawrence C.
Haggett
July 21, 1936 – December 16, 2019
Plaistow: Lawrence C "Larry" Haggett, 83, a longtime resident of Plaistow, and a well-known local business owner, died Monday December 16, 2019, at High Pointe Hospice House, Haverhill.
Born in Brentwood, NH, son of the late Francis and Doris (Ordway) Haggett, he was raised in Hampstead and attended local schools and later served in the U.S. Army.
In 1962, Larry opened Larry's Clam Bar on Route 125 in Plaistow. The restaurant, specializing in seafood, became a mainstay for generations of local families as well as a destination and stopping place for thousands of people out for a ride in Southern New Hampshire or on their way to or coming back from the White Mountains or the Lakes Region. Over the years he not only employed many of his family members but scores of high school and college students and other local young people during his peak business season. Larry retired and closed the business in 2016.
Devoted to his family all of his life, Larry being one of eight children, helped to support and raise his younger siblings. He was devoted to his loving wife of sixty-one years and his three children as they all worked alongside of him in the family business. He enjoyed gardening and camping with family.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his loving wife Verna (Nichols) Haggett, two daughters and a son-in-law, Laurie J. and Steven Guscora of Plaistow, and Valerie A. Haggett of Plaistow, a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher A. and Heather Haggett of Brentwood, three grandchildren, Matthew Torrisi, Nicholas Torrisi, and Christopher "Andrew" Haggett, Jr., two sisters, Rita Bourdelais of Salem. NH and Joann Haggett of East Hampstead, three brothers, Ewell Haggett of Phillipston, MA, Herman Haggett and his wife Virginia of Florida and Sherman Haggett of East Hampstead, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Francis Haggett and Edward Haggett.
