Atkinson, NH: Laurie (Carr) Herlihy, 82, of Atkinson, died peacefully, Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Lawrence General Hospital, surrounded by her five loving children and close family members, after being stricken ill last week at her home.
Born and raised in Peabody, MA, daughter of the late Arthur J. and Mary (Lawrence) Carr, she attended The Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, Newton, MA, and received her Bachelor's Degree from Marymount College, Tarrytown, NY.
A longtime resident of Atkinson, Laurie was a well-respected and much loved teacher for over thirty years. She retired in 2005, after spending most of her career at Atkinson Academy.
A staunch supporter of the Republican Party, she and her late husband were active in local political campaigns. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she also enjoyed watching Fox News, traveling and spending wonderful times with her family.
Predeceased by her husband, John William Herlihy, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her five children, Laurie Murphy and her husband James of Doylestown, PA, John W. Herlihy, Jr. and his wife Beth of Hopkinton, MA, Karen Duhamel and her husband David of Arlington, VA, Michael Herlihy and his wife Michelle of Shrewsbury, MA, and Kerry MacNeil and her husband Peter of Brighton, MI, her sister Eleanor Hanlon of Colleyville, TX, twelve grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St, Plaistow, NH. Her funeral will begin on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, Plaistow, NH. A family graveside service will take place in Atkinson Cemetery in the spring. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Town of Atkinson Elder Services, 21 Academy Avenue, Atkinson, NH.
