Obituary

Haverhill: Laurence A. "Larry" Greenwood, 80, a resident of Haverhill most of his life, died Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.

Born in Haverhill, son of the late George and Lorraine (Villers) Greenwood, he attended Haverhill public schools and was a member of the Haverhill Trade School Class of 1960, where he served as both Class President and President of the Student Council, and was trained in the plumbing trade.

Larry first worked for the Thom McCann Shoe Company in Boston and later was the manager of the Riverside Plaza store until the company ceased operations. He then went on to work for the Haverhill Paperboard Co. in Bradford in the boiler room and later in general maintenance. He also worked in the maintenance department of the Brooks School in North Andover from 1984 until 1990 and as a parking attendant at Salisbury Beach. Following his retirement, Larry took on the responsibility of taking care of maintenance issues at Saint Patrick's Church in Groveland. His carpentry and plumbing skills enabled him to greatly improve the physical plant and the refurbishing of the grounds of the church and the interior sanctuary area.

He was an active member of Sacred Hearts Parish of Bradford, and Christ the King Council of the Knights of Columbus and a Fourth Degree member of Fr. O'Doherty Assembly. An avid reader, Larry was a history buff and also liked to keep up with politics and discuss issues with family and friends. He enjoyed watching Red Sox Baseball and the New England Patriots, gardening in his yard, and taking walks along the beach with his wife. He was devoted to his large family and enjoyed regular visits with all of them.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-six years, Marie A. (Iasimone) Greenwood, a daughter, Trina (Greenwood) Searle-Spratt and her husband, Brent Spratt of Manchester, NH, a son, Remi Greenwood of South Carolina, three step-sons, Daniel R. Driscoll and Eric M. Driscoll, both of Haverhill and Gregory Driscoll and his wife, Lisa of Northwood, NH, four sisters, Joan Lavallee of Exeter, Roberta Vuytowecz, of Londonderry, NH, Sandra Grandmaison and Sheila Mendelsohn, both of Bradford, seventeen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, George W., Robert E., Frederick H., Richard P. and Brian K. Greenwood, and sisters, Lorraine Mottram Perreault, Jeannette Britton and Linda Spero.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, under the Commonwealth of Massachusetts guidelines for social distancing and the wearing of masks.
