Plaistow, NH: Laura A. Fleming, 54, a longtime resident of Plaistow, died Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, following a valiant battle with cancer.
Born in Salem, MA, the daughter of the late Attorney James F. Fleming and MaryAnn (Cates) Fleming, she lived as a young child in Marblehead until moving with her family to Plaistow in 1963. She attended the Pollard School and later graduated from Timberlane Regional High School as a member of the Class of 1981. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1985 from the University of New Hampshire. She has been employed for the last seventeen years as the Director of Clinical Research at Sanofi/Genzyme in Cambridge, MA.
For much of her life, Laura owned and trained several horses. As an accomplished equestrian, she competed from the age of ten and participated in numerous Dressage competitions and exhibitions as a member of the U.S. Dressage Foundation. She was also a member of the COM Sportscar Club and was a licensed NHRA driver. She enjoyed racing at several tracks throughout New England, New York and Pennnsylvania and participated and won Multiple Season Racing Championships and set several track records. Because of her vast skill and knowledge of racing, she was a valued mentor to many novice racers. Laura was also an avid motorcyclist, dirt bike rider and snowmobiler. She owned and enjoyed several vehicles and was a licensed Semi-Tractor Trailer driver and also enjoyed and was accomplished at home renovation projects.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her longtime significant other Robert J. Cairns of Chester, her sister Lynne A. Fleming of Venice, Florida and her devoted cat "Sam", as well as many of her friends, racing colleagues and work associates.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Life Celebration to be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. The family requests that memorial donations be made to The American Cancer Society, or participation in a blood drive to be organized by the American Red Cross at a later date in memory of Laura.
