Hampstead, NH: Kenneth R. Poitras, 90, a resident of Hampstead since 2000, died Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Greystone Farm at Salem.
Born, raised, and educated in Haverhill, MA, son of the late Joseph and Mabel (White) Poitras and step-son of the late Lucille (Boulanger) Poitras, he was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1944.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II serving from 1945 until his discharge as a Corporal in 1950, and was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.
Mr. Poitras was employed for twenty-eight years at Western Electric Co and A T & T Technologies in several management positions and during that time received his Associates Degree in Business from Merrimack College. He later worked as a consultant for the Diocese of Manchester, NH and finally as a Technologies and Information Consultant for Saint Michael's Parish of Exeter, NH. He was a former longtime resident of Haverhill,, MA and Exeter NH from 1963 until moving to Hampstead seventeen years ago.
He served as an Auxiliary Police Office for the City of Haverhill for several years and was a member of the Pentucket Gun Club. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Saint Anne's Parish of Hampstead and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus of Saint Michael's Parish.
An avid reader, he also enjoyed counted cross stitching, photography, target shooting and cribbage. He traveled widely across the United States including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as thru Europe and Africa, with his beloved wife and family enjoying vacations and great adventures including Colorado River rafting and hot air ballooning.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-four years, Phyllis (Srybny) Poitras, a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen J. and Carol Poitras of Newmarket, daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle T. and Jeffrey Kingery of Fostorio, Ohio, Sharon L. Bruce of Exeter, Cathy A. and Ken Hoffman of Nottingham, and Renee M. and Peter Mitchell of Hampstead, thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Life Celebration to be held on Sunday, June 25, 2017 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St.., Plaistow. His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Saint Anne's Church, Emerson Avenue, Hampstead.
