Obituary

Plaistow, NH: Katherine E. "Kay" (O'Shea) Fitzpatrick, 92, a resident of Plaistow for the past seventy-two years, died peacefully on Monday evening, July 25, 2022, at her home and surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, daughter of the late John J. and Katherine (Aherne) O'Shea she was a member of the first graduating class of Sacred Hearts Grammar School, Bradford. She was a graduate of Saint James High School with the Class of 1949.

She married the love of her life, Joseph Fitzpatrick in 1950, and together they raised eight children and enjoyed forty-two years of marriage until his death in 1992.

Kay was a devoted wife and mother to her large family of eight children and their extended families that included four generations. A great supporter of her adopted Town of Plaistow, she served as the Secretary to the Plaistow Building Inspector until her retirement in 1992. She was also a Life Member of the Plaistow Historical Society, and served as Supervisor of the Check List for thirty-five years and was active in local community events. She had a strong faith that sustained her all of her life, and was a longtime active member of Holy Angels Parish of Plaistow and St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, where she served as a member of the Parish Council and as a Eucharistic Minister. Kay was also a member and past-president of the Women's Guild of the parish, involved with parish fundraisers, fashion shows, mercy meals and parish celebrations.

An accomplished seamstress, Kay also enjoyed swimming, gardening, and traveling, especially cruises and two trips to Ireland.

She will be missed and lovingly remembered by four sons, Thomas B. Fitzpatrick and his wife Anne, of Bristol, Joseph F. Fitzpatrick, of Danville, David J. Fitzpatrick of Arundel, ME, and Brian P. Fitzpatrick and his wife Kerri of Plaistow; three daughters, Jayne Timlin of New York City, NY, Elizabeth McCarthy and her husband David of Sebago, ME, and Caryn Gerczak and her husband Eric of Hatfield, PA,; twenty grandchildren, Jean, Jonah, Benjamin, Abigail, Kaylin, Tyler, Jillian, Alexa, Lucas, Ian, Keely, Breana, Riley, Addison, Frederick, Henry, Mackenzie, Kristin, Eric, and Jennifer; twenty-nine great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Kay was predeceased by her daughter Gail Sanford, three grandchildren, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Molly (Fitzpatrick) Perin, and Sarah McCarthy; a great-grandson, Micah V. Gianotti, a brother John "Jack" O'Shea, and a sister, MaryJane Mengenhauser.

The family would like to thank Donna Puig for the care and comfort extended to Kay over the last several months.

Relatives and friends are invited to Kay's Life Celebration to be held on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. Her funeral will begin on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, Plaistow. Burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery, East Road, Plaistow. Donations in her name may be made to the St. Luke's Food Pantry, 8 Atkinson Depot Road, Plaistow, NH, or to Plaistow Rescue, C/O Plaistow Fire Department, Elm St., Plaistow, NH.
