Obituary

Methuen: Karen M. Murphy, 72, of Methuen and a former resident of Bradford, died September 26, 2020 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.

Born in Lynn, daughter of the late John J. and Lillian M. (Marks) Murphy, she attended Saint Coletta's School of Hanover from 1954 until 1964 and the Cobb Memorial School in Altamont, NY until 1971. She was later a resident of the Convent of the Little Missionary Sisters of Charity in Groveland until 1988. Karen was employed at Career Resources, Inc. of Haverhill, The opportunity Workshop of Newburyport and later as an aide at the Early Childhood Center of Sacred Hearts Parish, Bradford, from 1998 until 2013.

A former member of Saint Pius V Parish of Lynn, Karen accompanied the late Richard Cardinal Cushing on a pilgrimage to Lourdes in 1959. She was very proud of the fact that she lived independently in her own home in Bradford for twenty-five years until moving to Haverhill in 2013 and was a fan of re-runs of Charlie's Angels.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by a sister. Carole A. Lueders of Sandown, brother and sister-in-law, John F. and Alveretta Murphy of Providence, R.I., nieces, Donna Hammerstein of Jacksonville, FL, Kacie King of Zonhoven, Belgium, and Kim Stephen of Rochester, NY, nephews, C.J. King of Omaha, NE, and John King of Pittsburg, PA, and her caretaker of six years and special friend, Eleanor Sweetman, of Haverhill.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, October 1, 2020 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH, following the NH guidelines for social distancing and the wearing of masks. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Angels Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, 8 Atkinson Depot Rd. Plaistow and burial in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Food Pantry of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish or to the charity of the donor's choice.
