Born in Dorchester, MA, son of Steven S. Leighton and Dawn (Hubert) Leighton, he was raised and educated in Sandown and was an outstanding pitcher for Sandown youth baseball town and travel teams. Justin attended Timberlane Regional Middle School and Timberlane Regional High School, graduating with the Class of 1997, was a member of the basketball team, and played Bass in the school orchestra. A "Jack of All Trades", Justin was employed by local contractors and tradesmen. An avid fan of all Boston sports teams, he enjoyed hiking and had completed a section of the Appalachian Trail this past spring. Justin played guitar and enjoyed an eclectic taste in music. Devoted to his family, Justin was noted for his big heart and the enormous bear hugs that he freely shared with family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with the many family dogs that were referred to as his "Wolfpack" and will be greatly missed by his canine best friend Toby.
