IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judith G.
(Hills) Wengel
December 17, 1937 – September 21, 2021
Judith G (Hills) Wengel, (Judy to those in the know), longtime resident of Plaistow NH, jitterbug aficionado and reigning sovereign of the world-renowned Basement Christmas Party, moved on to the big casino in the sky on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.
Born and raised in Haverhill, MA, she was the daughter of the late Alfred B and Edith (Paltrinieri) Hills and a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1955 (Go Hillies!)
Judy was a bank girl - starting her career as a teller at the Pentucket Five and advancing to customer service at the Family Mutual Savings Bank - but her true calling was entertaining. Her house was ground zero for love and laughter, an open door where you were always welcome. If you were lucky enough to be in her social circle, your calendar revolved around her numerous and much anticipated invitations. The Halloween celebrations, pool parties, Christmas Eve in the basement - she hosted them all with style, grace, and a big bowl of nice potato salad.
Although she had all the trappings of a 1950's housewife, don't be fooled. Judy was a risk taker. She loved the casino, scratch tickets, and Keno. Thank God she was never introduced to the horses. If it was after 1 pm, you would find her at Mr. Mike's betting high and laughing loud with the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Wengel. A visit to their designated high top was a rite of passage for any staff person or regular. Everyone knew and loved Judy and Dick.
Judy will be missed by all, including her husband of sixty-four years, Richard "Dick" Wengel, son, Rick Wengel and his significant other, Lisa Laporte, daughter, Kristine Grady and her husband, Brent, grandchildren, Chelsea, James, and River, nephew, Donald Hills, niece, Judith Kerem, sisters in law, Heather Hills, Kathy Corcoran, and Charlene (Bob) German, niece, Stacy (Ted) Lis z ewski, nephews, Dana Sturk, Sean Corcoran, Michael Corcoran, multiple godchildren, and by everyone who knew her as "Aunty Judy." Judy was predeceased by her brother, Allan Hills and good friend, Pauline (Brooksie) Brooks who is sure to have a vodka tonic (not TOO strong) waiting for her upon her arrival.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, October 2, 2021, from 3 pm to 5 pm at Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main street, Plaistow NH. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 5:30 pm.
In Judy's memory, please donate to the Birthday Party Project, an organization that hosts Birthday parties for homeless children. This honors Judy's true loves, children and parties. Please visit www.thebirthdayproject.org .
