Obituary

Haverhill: Joseph A. Mazza, 89, of Haverhill, died on January 13, 2021, at the Nashoba Valley Regional Hospital in Ayer, MA.

Born, raised and educated in Haverhill, son of the late Joseph and Rose (DeFazio) Mazza, he attended local schools and was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1949, where he was a co-captain of the varsity baseball team. In 1972, he received his degree in Business Management from Northern Essex Community College.

Mr. Mazza was first employed at Western Electric and later Sanders Associates, and finally for many years as a general foreman at Raytheon, until his retirement in 1991.

A member of All Saints Parish of Haverhill and the Garibaldi Club, he had a lifelong love of baseball and was a huge New York Yankees fan. He coached Saint Joseph Little League and the Haverhill Senior League and as a member of the Merrimack Valley Umpires Association, he umpired for the High School League and the American Legion League. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed the many family gatherings and up until the pandemic, he worked out at local gyms five days a week for the past thirty years. Mr. Mazza and his wife enjoyed spending the winters in the Tampa and Clearwater, Florida area and he always looked forward to playing Santa Claus for the Sarah's Place Christmas party.

Predeceased in 1982 by his first wife of twenty-seven years, Cecile (Chevalier) Mazza, and his infant daughter, Mary Mazza, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of thirty-one years, Gloria (Normandin) (Beaudoin) Mazza, a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas J. and Patricia Mazza of Tyngsboro, a daughter, Jodi A. Perez of Laconia, NH and a daughter and son-in-law, Lynne M. and David MacRae of Danville, NH, a brother, Albert Mazza of North Carolina, stepsons, Dr. Stephen Beaudoin and his wife, Arna of West Newbury, and Scott Beaudoin of El Paso, Texas, a stepdaughter, Judy McGrath and her husband, Douglas of Brookline, NH, eighteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a stepson, Richard Beaudoin, Sr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. Mazza's Life Celebration to be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill, followed by burial in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Haverhill.
