Obituary

Haverhill:  Joseph Francis Doucette, Jr., 72, formerly of Haverhill, died December 17, 2020 in West Hills, California, following an extended illness.

Born in Sioux Falls, SD, son of the late Joseph F. and Marie (Jensen) Doucette, he was raised in Haverhill, attending Saint James Grammar School and later graduated from Lawrence Central Catholic High School with the Class of 1966. He went on to attend The University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Mr. Doucette was a Vietnam veteran and served honorably and heroically as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He earned The Silver Star Medal and was twice awarded The Bronze Star Medal. Honorably discharged in 1970, he was also a recipient of the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Army Commendation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Following his discharge, Mr. Doucette settled in West Hills, CA and found a career working in the theatre industry as a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local #33 for fifty-four years. He served as Recording Secretary of his local for fifteen years and numerous times as a delegate to the International Convention. He was a trustee of the Pension Health and Welfare plan and helped to establish his union's 401K.

Devoted to his family, Joe was a passionate Red Sox fan. He was kind, stoical, honest and a great friend and support to many of his co-workers and Vietnam veterans.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Pamela Doucette and a son, Joseph F Doucette, III, both of California, a brother and sister-in-law Richard and Maureen Doucette, of Newton Junction, NH, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandie and Charles Annan of Salem, NH, and Dorothea and Raymond Collette of Haverhill, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Carole Armstrong.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his service to be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 12:15 p.m.  from Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH and followed by a graveside service with military honors at 1 p.m. in Willow Grove Cemetery in Newton, under the State of New Hampshire guidelines for social distancing and the wearing of masks.
