Joseph E. DeCristofaro Jr., 61, known to family and friends as Joe, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

Joe was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, on December 15, 1964, to Tina (Malvers) Athanasatos and the late Joseph DeCristofaro Sr. He spent his early childhood in Haverhill before moving to Plaistow, New Hampshire, where he grew up and spent the remainder of his life. He attended Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, before graduating from Timberlane Regional High School, Class of 1982.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Joe built a career as a self-employed house painter, operating Sharper Image Painting throughout his adult life. He took pride in his work and in the business he built over the years. Well known throughout the community, Joe will be remembered for his friendly nature, his ability to connect with others, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life.

Outside of work, Joe enjoyed participating in his weekly bowling league, following fantasy sports, and, most importantly, spending time with his friends and family. He especially cherished the time he spent with his daughter and grandsons, who brought him so much joy.

Joe is survived by his mother, Tina Athanasatos; his daughter, Dayna Despres, and her husband, Brandon, of Plaistow, New Hampshire; his sister, Nicole DeCristofaro, and her husband, Robert Nihan, of Newburyport, Massachusetts; and his beloved grandsons, Carter Brann and Bodie Despres.

He was predeceased by his infant son, Dylan DeCristofaro, and his stepfather, Nick Athanasatos.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, New Hampshire. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2026, in the funeral home chapel.
