Newton, NH: Joseph P. Danahy, Jr, 80, a resident of Newton. NH since 2015, died July 19, 2024, at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, MA.

Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, son of the late Joseph P. and Eleanor B. (Doyle) Danahy, he graduated from Lawrence Central Catholic High School with the Class of 1961 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Merrimack College in 1965. He later received his Master's Degree in Labor Relations from the University of Rhode Island.

Mr. Danahy began his career in labor relations with the International Ladies Garment Workers Union in New York City, and later retired after thirty-five years as the International Director of Labor Relations. Following his retirement, he worked in Washington D.C. for the U.S. State Department as a consultant in labor relations for Croatia. His final career was working as a consultant and broker for many years at Clipper Bay Yachts in Rose Haven, MD.

A resident of Danville, NH for ten years before moving to Newton, Mr. Danahy was a longtime member of the Lawrence Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 8. He enjoyed golfing at Atkinson Country Club and maintained a lifelong passion for sailing, especially on Chesapeake Bay. He was an avid traveler throughout Europe and chased the Northern Lights in Iceland and Alaska.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his best friend and devoted wife of thirty years, Cidalia (Cabral) Danahy, a daughter Kasey Johnson and two grandchildren, Lucy and Rion, all of Colorado, a brother William F. Danahy, his wife Anna and son Joseph of Woburn, MA, his brother-in-law Richard Fenton of Atkinson, NH, a number of nephews and nieces and many longtime friends. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary E. Fenton and Catherine E. Danahy.

Funeral services and private burial will be under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home of Plaistow, NH.
