Danville – John Hughes, Sr., 84, passed away Sunday January 14, 2024, at his home following a period of failing health.

Born July 31, 1939, in Methuen, MA, he was the son of the late Herbert and Priscilla (Westwell) Hughes.

Mr. Hughes served in the US Air Force, and later worked in assembly at Lucent Technologies.

In his spare time John loved fishing, gardening, and playing bridge. When he learned how to do something he went above and beyond to know as much as he possibly could. He was also willing to teach anyone who wanted to learn, especially bridge. He also loved to share the fruits of his labor from his garden with his friends and family.

Members of his family include his wife Barbara (Hale) Hughes of Danville, NH; his three children John "Ken" Hughes, Jr. and wife Meghan of Wakefield, NH; and Jennifer Smith and husband Kevin of Findlay, OH; and Richard De Adelhart Toorop of Prince Edward Island, Canada; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit Friday, January 26, 2024 from 4 PM – 7PM at the Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main St. Plaistow, NH.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 27th at 10 AM at the St Christopher's Episcopal Church, 187 East Rd. Hampstead, NH.
