August 7, 1943 – September 17, 2023
Haverhill: John M. Shibel, 80, of Haverhill, died peacefully, Sunday, September 17, 2023, at his home and surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lawrence and raised and educated in Methuen, John was the son of the late John A. and Georgette (Bashalany) Shibel. A member of the Lawrence Central Catholic High School Class of 1961, John furthered his career at Merrimack College and was a member of Phi Kappa Theta. A sales representative for New England Coffee for most of his working career, he also worked as a cashier at Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital in his retirement.
A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, John was a Life Member of Knights of Columbus Council 4027 of Methuen and member of the Centerpoint Community Church of Salem NH. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and liked to enjoy relaxing watching old 60's and 70's sitcoms and listening to Big Band music, Chicago and Santana.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of sixty years, Carol A. (Trombley) Shibel, three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael K. and Susan Shibel, of Boxford, Christopher J. Shibel and Jackie O'Brien, of Hampton, NH, and John A. and Heather Shibel of Newton, NH; a sister, Kathleen Hansen of Manchester, CT, ten grandchildren, Aaron, Zoe, Casey, Mollie, MacKenzie, Alexa, Nicholas, Cameron, Hailee and Skyla; a great grand-daughter, Aspen and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Kenneth Shibel.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral Service to be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Centerpoint Community Church, 101 School St., Salem NH. Visitation with the family will be held in the narthex of the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Centerpoint Community Church, or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA.
