Meredith, NH: John M. Poitras, 71, of Meredith and a former resident of Haverhill, Massachusetts, and Plaistow, NH, died on January 10, 2024 at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, NH, following an extended period of declining health.

Born in Haverhill, MA, son of the late Arthur and Pauline (Mosher) Poitras, he was raised in the Ward Hill section of the city. He was a member of Sacred Hearts Parish of Bradford and graduated in 1972 from the former Haverhill Trade School.

John served honorably as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1976. He worked as a materials handler and Lucent Technologies in North Andover, MA., until his retirement, and was also employed as a maintenance man in the Fitness Room at Cedardale Health and Athletic Club in Bradford.

John was known as a man with a kind and loving heart who enjoyed helping others and cherished the time that he spent with family and friends. He also enjoyed racquetball, golfing, bowling, playing cards, ballroom dancing and trips to Lake Winnipesaukee.

John will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his brother and sister-in-law Kevin and Deborah Poitras of Moultonborough, several  nieces, nephews, cousins, and also friends at Cedardale Health and Athletic Club, where John found a second family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral Mass to be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 10 am at Sacred Hearts Church,165 South Main St., Bradford, MA, followed by burial in Saint Patrick's Cemetery with military honors.  Arrangements are under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH.
