Haverhill, MA: John J. McCarthy, Jr., 57, lifelong resident of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 14, 2021, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA.

John was born on May 27, 1963 to the late John and Yvette (Boucher) McCarthy. John was raised in Haverhill, Mass.   John was a graduate of Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School, Class of 1981.

John was a caring and devoted husband and father. He enjoyed spending his free time with his family whether it be at a baseball game watching his son, John or going to the racetrack with the entire family. John was very active in auto racing. As a young child his father and uncle raced at various tracks and the entire family would go. As he got older, his brother became involved in racing and he helped his brother work on the car at the house and at the track. He was also involved with many other people who raced. When his boys were very young, he would bring them to the family-owned business, and he would have the boys help with repairs on equipment which they loved. As the boys were older, they would go to work with their dad in his truck and spending that time with them was special. Everyone who met John never had a bad word to say. He was liked by many and will be missed by all.

John will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of twenty one years, Denise (Worden) McCarthy, sons, John McCarthy, III and his girlfriend, Kate Collins of Haverhill, Ryan McCarthy of Haverhill, brother, William McCarthy and his wife, Pam of Haverhill, mother-in-law, Beverly Doe of Holbrook, Mass, sisters-in-law, Lisa Donga and her husband, Edward of Holbrook, Mass, Linda Bentley and her husband, Kenny of Holbrook, Mass, as well as his Aunts Barbara Dube of Haverhill and Linda Hamel of Haverhill. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, a great niece and two cousins. He is predeceased by his father in law, Leslie Doe, and sister in law, Wanda McCarthy.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, from 10 am to 1 pm, at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH, following guidelines of wearing a face covering and social distancing. His Funeral Service will start at 1:15 pm at the funeral home, followed by burial in St. James Cemetery, Primrose St., Haverhill.
