Obituary

Newton, NH: John P. Harland, 76, a resident of Newton since 2013 and formerly of Windham, NH, passed away, surrounded by family, on May 18, 2025, at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA.

Born in Peoria, Illinois, he was the son of the late Phillip and Rose Marie (Tabor) Harland and was educated in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduating from Riverside High School in 1967. John went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Wisconsin and served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 5, during the Vietnam War, stationed in Turkey. Following his honorable discharge, John went on to receive his Master's Degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Wisconsin. He worked for local companies as a computer data analyst, and at the time of his retirement he had been employed for twenty years in the same capacity for the State of New Hampshire.

John was a longtime member of the Windham Lions Club and served three times as President and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, John enjoyed traveling, including skiing in the Rockies, and family trips to Alaska and Disney World. He had a passion for model rocketry, supported by his membership in the Central Massachusetts Spacemodeling Society and the National Association of Rocketry. Most recently he had a renewed interest in oil painting.

John will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of fifty-four years, Nancy (Denomme) Harland, a daughter and son-law, Rebecca and Adam Charters, of Danville, NH, a son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Mary Harland of Seattle, Washington, and a sister Candace Groth of Manitowoc, WI, and three grandchildren, Hunter, Colton, and Ellie and other extended family members and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours to be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. John's funeral service will follow at 5:15 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date.
